I’ve had this problem since I got the car from my grandma it is a 1988 Pontiac grand am se it has 99,300 miles on it. When I accelerate there is no problem only when I’m slowing down to a stop at about 5 to 10 mph there is a knock from the engine but if I put it in neutral while slowing down there is no sound is this trans. that is going out in between gears?

this could be the torque converter bolts being loose and making noise. also it could be a motor/trans mount or the doglegs on the top holiding the motor.
