I have a 2005 Pontiac G6 GT. I noticed in September of 07 after having my tires and brakes replaced and rotors turned that I heard a clunking noise when I turn the car. It doesn't do it all the time, but I recently went to Big 10 Tires who told me that my rack and pinion needs to be replaced. The dealership where I bought it says that they don't think that is it because I have not had any leaks. Any suggestions to what the clunking noise is?

It's the intermediate shaft. Very common problem. The u-joint on the I-shaft gets frozen and starts to bind when turning. As far as the rack it's a sealed unit and this vehicle has electric steering.I would also check the front end, maybe a loose tie rod end or lower balljoint.

I have a g6. The above comment may be correct. But I went through the same issue. The clucking could possibly be your break calibers grabbing to slow your car down because the Wheel speed sensor may have been bumped or gotten brake cleaner on it. In time the traction control light and abs lights will start coming on if so. More likely the front driver side. You can go to your nearest AutoZone or O'reilly's and they can use a computer for free to see what codes your car is throwing. Hope it helps. There may also be a recall you fall under. I'd heck it out
