Well, at first thought it sounds like your fly wheel may be missing a few teeth. But I wouldnt panic yet. You might want to take the starter off and see if the engage solenoid is working and engaging the spline.
WANRING. If you engage the starter without it bolted on, it will create torque and may move. Make sure it is secure before engaging it.

Nope that wasnt the problem I had stated in my question that the starter engages and doesnt spin the flywheel which I took a rachet to the cam bolt and couldnt turn the cam so the engine needs to be replaced which I have a 350 corvette engine w d port heads only 24 grand on it imma drop in but thanks for youre reply
