Transmission problem
1999 Pontiac Firebird 6 cyl Automatic 190000 miles

I have a Firebird that is in need of several repairs to get it back on the road again. The transmission is the main issue as the car will not shift into gear. It also has a coolant leak somewhere; location wasn't discovered the last time I had a radiator flush. It's been sitting undriven for a while now, so I'm sure the fuel filter needs to be replaced along with four new tires. I would like to know if the vehicle is worth investing the money to fix up and if so, about how much would you guess it would cost to get it back on the road? The engine still runs well and the car looks good.

The transmission is the main issue. Please remember, where you live may change the prices. First, I would estimate the transmission to be rebuilt would cost around 2500.00. The coolant leak is another issue. Can you give me an aprox area as to where it is leaking from. It could be many things. Next, based on tire size, I would estimate around 500.00 if they are a performance tire. As far as the fuel filter, let me know how long it has been sitting. They are not expensive, but it may not need replaced.

As far as keeping it, what condition is the body in and the interior?

Here is the private party values of the vehicle if you wanted to sell it:

Condition Value

Excellent
$4,960

Good
$4,560

Fair
$4,060

Basically, you may end up with the value of the vehicle into it if there is a major engine problem causing the leak or more.
Let me know the answers to the questions I asked so I can give you a better feel for the repair cost for them, and thanks for using 2carpros. Com
