I am replacing the front main seal because the oil is gushing out. I have the harmonic balancer off and the old seal out. I did this without taking any thing else off, like the water pump, timing chain cover. My question is that the only way I could get the seal was in a package with gaskets for the above things, do I have to take them off to replace the seal? I am confused.

No, if you have the old seal out replace it with the new one. Strange you had to get a kit to get the front seal. You can usually just get the seal.

Be sure to check your harmonic balancer that it does not have a grove where the seal goes over it. If it does you will have to get a seal saver kit or you will still have a leak.

Thank you for your reply ! I gathered some balls and went ahead and changed the seal. It turned out great. Its amazing what that little seal can hold in. Oh yea, I read some questions about some firebird owners having problems with their car running and then shutting off, unless its the fuel pump, its definetly the maf senser, plug it in. I unpluged mine and the car would shut off at a certain speed and then curplunk. Anyway I will definetly donate to the cause as soon as I can afford it. I appreciate what you guys are doing with the info, peaple definetly need the info. There is to many so called mechanic shops out there ripping peaple off, i've been burned twice, over 3,000 dollars worth.
