1998 Pontiac Firebird My Firebird is stuck in park

Hello my 98 automatic base firebird has developed a problem with getting stuck in park. I turn the car on (starts up with no problem) then i press down the break then i try to move the shifter to drive....its stuck and it freezes up randomly like this. Im worried because i dont know how much it would take to fix it. pls help


trans and engiene were replaced 40000 miles ago 140k on body

Are your brake lights working? if so have the shift interlock control solenoid tested

yes the brake lights still work, when i depress the brake. The weird thing is it randomly just gets stuck every once and awhile. its a pain because its not relaible and it takes a few hours for the problem to randomly dissapear after waiting a few hours
