1996 Pontiac Firebird pinging

I recently had to replace my head gasket(both) after all gaskets were replaced my mechanic imformed me of a ping. He suggested a lower rebuild. should i go forth with the rebuid or just try higher octane gas, egr valve, etc..all.

Does it only ping under heavy acceleration? Also when they put new gaskets in did they deck the cylinder heads? A ping is not very normal on this type of engine
