Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Pontiac Firebird 6 cyl Automatic 132000 miles

I bought a 96 firebird formula and started having problems with skipping. I changed the spark plug at cylinder 4 with no luck. the machine is showing multiple misfire. I took it to a garage and they replaced the distributor and that didn't help. they replaced the crank shaft sensor and now the machine is showing multiple codes. they think that the computer has gone bad and is giving out false codes. the guy I bought it from is surprised. he says that he did put on a performance chip onto the computer and I could try disconnecting it. I don't know what else to do without spending a small fortune.

A manufacturer scanner might show you that one cylinder is misfiring more than others, then you start with that one cylinder. Fuel--spark--vacuum leak?
