1988 Pontiac Firebird V8 Automatic 165000 miles

I'm looking at buying my first car. It's a 1988 Pontiac Firebird with a v8 engine, 165,000 miles. I'm not sure if buying it with 165,000 miles on it already is a smart idea. How many miles can a car like this take before it dies?

The small block chevy has been around a long time and for the most part is a reliable engine.

Having said that, you would want to get the car inspected by a qualified mechanic BEFORE you buy it.

Have the engine inspected for leaks, missing parts, and performance. Have suspension checked, fluid levels checked and overall condition of body (rust).
