1984 Pontiac Firebird V8 Two Wheel Drive Manual

My car has a beefed 500 hp 1st gen chevy sb 350 4 bolt main. The engine is the only thing that is not stock. Stock 5 speed and stock 3.23 rear. I seem to be shifting real quickly through the gears. At 45 miles per hour in fifth gear it runs 4500 rpms. This is always the case it is never different, always the same. What is causing the unusual.

that seems impossible. its simple math. the horsepower of the engine doesnt matter its the revolutions per minute. 3.23 gears are basically highway gears. you say stock 5 speed so i imagine its a standard. is it possible the transmission is not shifting into 5 gear? what size tires are you using. stock would be 215/65/15 or 245 50 16. if you are using a much smaller tire then that could be the problem
