1985 Pontiac Fiero can i pull my motor out of the top?

i have an 85 fiero and i have to change the transmission in it and everyone is telling me that i have to drop it threw the bottom. but i thought if i took the hatch off i could get it out with a cherry picker. and i dont want to get half way into it and find out that way wont work.

nope, you have to go through the bottom
