1984 Pontiac Fiero New Electric Fuel Pump not working

Just replaced and electric fuel pump.
I can hear pump working for 2 seconds to prime the line whenever I turn the key on and when cranking engine.
No fuel being pumped out.
Checked at fuel filter and injectors.
**Car had been sitting for some time with stale gas **
Tank drained and cleaned out with fresh gas added when installing new pump

I had the same symptoms. It turned out that I had missed a crack in the flex hosing that connected the new fuel pump to the fuel feed line (yes, inside the gas tank). Once I replaced the hose I had no more problems with fuel feed from the pump.
