I have a 96 Bonneville and the AC compressor wont engage. The innner windings are all torn apart and it will occasionally spin a little bit and make a terrible grinding noise when in a certain position... Does anybody have any suggestions on what to do about the noise until I can get up the money to get it replaced, becuase i was told that the compressor can't be replaced without a new assortment of hoses and i was also told that it would be a 3 hour job so thats about 650 dollars and to me it doesnt sound right. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

if the ac compressor is bad then yes you'll need to replace other parts, such as the dryer, evaporator and orfice tube. as long as the hoses and condenser is not leaking, then they can be flushed out, just replace the o-rings. about the price, ac work is not cheap. i have seen it a lot more expensive then $650.00. it depends on the vehicle. anyway i hope this helps
