Unintended acceleration at highway speeds when cruise control is on. If I apply gentle pressure on accelerator pedal (passing on Interstate) when cruise control is set, car continues to accelerate after I "let up" on the pedal. I have to tap the brake to stop acceleration. Is the cruise control "module" defective? [Module was replaced 3 years ago after cruise control failed completely]

Inspect the following before replacing the module :
-Proper operation of brake lamps
-Throttle linkage for mechanical binding which could cause the system to malfunction
-Cruise control cable adjustment, should have minimum slack
-If DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) are stored, scan with diagnostic tool
-EMI on speed sensor signal circuit may cause erratic cruise control operation

Post results of the inspections and I will follow up.
