1997 Pontiac Bonneville Low coolant light keeps coming on

There is coolant in both the radiator and the over flow tank but the low coolant light keeps coming on. The temperature gauge seems to be rising faster then it used normally does. Do you think it could be the waterpump?

Does the engine overheat? Also, there is a swith I believe located in the overflow jug that turns that light on. CHeck to make sure it is okay.
