1997 Pontiac Bonneville hood release doesn't work

hood won't open, pull cable level but doesn't release

Hello, If the release handle or cable isn't broken, sometimes it helps to have a helper standing at the end of the hood, while you pulling on the release mechanism, have them pop the hood with the palm of their hand, close to the mechanism. If that doesn't work you may have to remove the grill, see if you can get at the mechanism. If you get the hood up, grease the mechanism.
