So, i'm driving down the road, and I come to a red light. All of the sudden my car starts rolling backward. My car completely cut itself off. I'm still in gear to drive mind you. I try to crank it up and my engine's not turning over. So I have it towed home. Now nothing in my car works. My lights used to come on, now nothing works. Could I need a new battery, and/or alternator? Or is it something else?

Some of the national brand autostores make house calls, if you have a store in your city. Where needed, they will replace your battery right there in the driveway. I don't know what they charge?

Use a digital multimeter leads across the battery posts, voltage setting, everything turned off. The generic spec for a full charge is 12.6 volts. Leave the leads where they are, have helper turn key to crank, watch the voltage reading, should drop some but not below around 9 volts. With the vehicle running, we can check the charging system also. I wouldn't replace anything without testing.
