Two years ago dash and tail lights started working sometimes and sometimes not. Removed headlight switch. Found connector to be melted to the switch. Replaced switch and connector. One year later lights started acting up again. Pulled switch out of dash and found no problem, figured connector may have come loose because lights started working again. About one year later, two weeks ago, lights started acting up again, pull the switch and noticed the connector had started to melt again. Switch looks ok and wiring to the switch showes no sign of over heating, insulation on wires is not melted. What kind of gremlin do I have?

Have you checked the switch itself?

Thanks for a reply to my question! I did look the new switch(two years old)over and found no signs of over heating such as arching on the terminals or blackened plastic areas, only the connector melting again. Are there any other ways to check the switch?

I did not check continunity, I'm not sure what I would be looking for. Is this a check of 12v thru the different terminals of the switch? How would I know which terminals do what?

Acutally, you are just checking to see if the switch allows power to go through the switch and then stops the power when it is turned off.
