When I'm driving the car it acts like it's not getting enough fuel. When I come to a stop the voltage and oil pressure guages bogg down as the engine wants to stall. When it actually stalls it gets harder to start so I'll wait a while before trying to do it again. My guess is that it may need a new crank positioning sensor. I have read others having the same problem.

Hello,

Does it feel like that from start up or does it drive fine for a while before acting up? If it drives fine for a while before acting up it could be the fuel filter.

My experience with Crank Sensor is that when they heat up the engine just dies. And if you let it cool down it will drive fine till it heats up again.

One question. Is your Check Engine Light On? If so and you can go by your local auto zone or parts store and have them pull codes for you and post them here.

The check engine light comes on the first time it's started but them I turn the engine off and back on again and it goes out. Yes, it drives fine from the start for about 5-10 miles, but the acts like it's going to stall at stops and sputters when going 30-70 mph.

OK, lets see about pulling the codes.....

Here's how.....

To extract a trouble from the computer for diagnostic purposes, the Assembly Line Communication Link (ALDL) connector is used.

Ground terminals A and B with the ignition "ON" and engine not running. The system will enter the diagnostic mode. In this mode, the computer will display a 12, three consecutive times, by flashing the "CHECK ENGINE", "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" or "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP" or light. A 12 consists of one flash, a short pause, then two flashes in rapid succession.

After 12 is displayed, any stored trouble s will be displayed by flashing the "CHECK ENGINE", "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" or "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP" light. All s are displayed 3 times each then a 12 will repeat. In the diagnostic mode, the computer will also energize all computer controlled relays and solenoids.

The ALDL diagnostic connector is located in the passenger compartment under dash.

The check engine light, I was told my the guy I bought the car from was faulty. He told me all I had to do was turn the car off and then on again and it goes off. I'm thinking that it has to do with the engine starving for fuel. Sputtering while driving and stalling when it comes to a stop. Although, the check guages light comes on when it starts to sputter bad, or even before it stalls.

Ok, if the engine light is faulty then it is possible there are codes, and pulling the codes can pinpoint the exact problem.

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? If it has been a while and you want to change it and see what happens, I believe it is located under the car either up near the driver wheel or near the gas tank. it looks like this......

I changed the fuel filter and out of suspicion had the battery checked. The battery had 3 dead cells in it so I replaced it with a new one. Car ran fine for about 10 miles then when I pulled inyo my driveway it acted like it was going to stall. Fed it a little gas and ran fine. Let it run for about 1/2 hour in my garage and it acted like it was going to stall in park a few more times. So, the fuel filter has been replaced. Maybe a major tune up is needed, although the engine is sound.
