Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked the catylatic converter to see if it is plugged?

Check engine light is always on. How do I check the catalytic converter? I did remove the fuel filter and clean the injectors. This helped as the car does not surge any longer. However, it stalls out when making right turns. It has not yet returned to surging as of yet but it feels like it wants to.

First, if the ehcek engine light is on, have it scanned before doing any more work. Most nationally recognized parts stores will do it for free, and it should point us in the right direction,

I did that, but no one around here seems to have an OBD 1 scanner.
A new development though.
Engine now has a clanking noise on the passenger side. The car sputtered so I pressed accelerator and it slammed into gear, I mean it was a big bang and a jut forward. Since then, this clanking noise has been present.
