1992 Pontiac Bonneville A constant beep

Noises problem
1992 Pontiac Bonneville 6 cyl Automatic 260000 miles

the gauges for battery, oil are fine it is not overheating.

it starts beeping whenever I accelerate. Beep beep beep beep beep. Etc. It's pretty annoying.

check engine light is on but the car runs on the freeway fine. Any ideas on what is wrong?

The noise used to be intermittent but now it beeps on almost all the time when I accelerate. It sounds like the sound when you leave the key in the ignition when you open the driver's door but it is more continuous (less time between beeps)

I want the noise to stop. I am trying to avoid taking it to a mechanic.
