My check engine light just came on yesterday. I dont notice any changes in the car.

Take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for codes. Most will do it for free.
Also, if you don't notice any change in performance, chances are the problem has to do with the EVAP system. It could even be a loose or bad gas cap.
