My 2001 Aztek has been a great car, taking us all over the country with no major drive train problems. Recently, we returned from a 3000 mile trip and now the engine runs rough or strained when the brakes are applied, especially when sitting at a light idling. What can be the cause of this and how can it be fixed?

Check the vacuum hose to the power brake booster (behind the master cylender) to make sure there are no vacuum leaks or the hose is damaged. Also, if it is ok, have the booster tested to see if it holds steady vacuum.

Let me know what you find.
