Engine Performance problem
1989 Pontiac 6000 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I was fallowing the steps layed out on this site for troubleshooting ignition system failure.

I performed the fallowing,

unpluged spark plug boot from the number one plug, had a friend hold it very close to a good ground, and there was no spark.

I tested that there IS power going to the ignition module by unplugging the far right hand connector (2 pin) , hooking my meter to it set to 12 vdc and turning on the ignition, the needle moved.

I then performed a test of power to the coils from the module by unhooking one coil from the module, clipping test clips to both coil leads (on the module) on the other end of the test clip's leads i attached a headlight bulb and attempted to start the car,

at which point the headlight bulb should have flickered on and off if the module was sending power to the coil.

next fallowing the outline described on this site, I found the crankshaft sensor by climbing under the car, so i could find a location to test it with my tester set to AC voltage checking all three wires.

this is where i ran into a problem, I found that the wire harness runs directly from the ignition module to the crankshaft sensor, at the module it is a 3 wire plug, but by the time it makes it to the crankshaft sensor (CSS) it becomes a 2 wire due to the center wire being of a non insulated solid wire that stops within inches of the 2 prong connector hooking to the CSS,

so um how so i accualy "probe" the three wires for the (CSS) i am so terrably lost

probe it where it stops, disconnect the two wire connector and probe all three there, the solid wire where it stops and the other two through the connector.....
