Code PO430?

Hi,

Chances are, you are correct. The code is specific to the bank 2 converter. By chance, do you have a scan tool that can communicate and actuate different circuits? I attached the diagnostics below if you do.

If you don't have a scan tool that can do this, try deleting the code and see if it comes back. If it does, suspect the converter is the issue.

Hello Joe,

I checked the temperature at the catalytic converter going in its 400 degrees exiting is 457 degrees driver's side.
Passenger side is in is 413 exiting is 464.
(On the intake manifold gasket is there supposed to be gasket cement applied?)

For some reason, I can't access the link you provided. As far as gasket cement, no. There shouldn't be anything like that used. Where are you seeing it? Can you upload a pic for me to see?

Also, the temps seem okay. Normally, the outlet is between 75 and 100 degrees hotter than the inlet, but we only have a code for one side.

Did you try deleting the code to see if it returns? It could have been a fluke that the light turned on.

I don't know if you have a live data scan tool, but if you do, check the post-O2 sensor voltage. It should be around .5v. Compare it to the pre-02 sensor. If they are the same voltages, that is a good indication the converter isn't working.

Hello Joe, these are the voltages I read with my meter 0.14 volts (006 ohms) before the cat and .07 volts (0.10 ohms) after the cat. Also, I applied gasket cement when I replaced the intake manifold gasket.
Also, I just wanted to send you a picture of some of the reading I read. Thanks Joe really appreciate your help.

Okay, that is odd. Bank 1 Sensor 1 indicates a -8% which is telling the computer to remove fuel from the mixture. However, sensor 2 is showing +99% which it telling the computer to add a ton of fuel. Normal readings are between -10% and +10%. Sensor 1 is fine, sensor 2 is crazy.

I suspect sensor 2 has failed or we have a PCM issue. Have you tried replacing the sensor?

Based on what I am seeing, the bank 2 catalytic converter is failing. The sensor readings are where they should be.

At this point, and understand this is in theory, I feel the converter needs to be replaced. You could check the temperature of the intake and outlet of the converter to see if it is actually working.

Hello Joe, I checked the temperatures on both converters, they are the same. Do you think a loss of vacuum or defective EGR solenoid could be causing the check engine light coming on every 25 miles? PO430

As far as your question, if there is a vacuum leak or defective EGR, I feel it would cause codes not limited to one side of the engine.

There are no vacuum leaks on bank 2, correct? When I say leaks, I mean between the manifold and catalytic converter.
