2000 Plymouth Voyager a/c compressor

I had a power steering belt and alternator belt replaced on the van, van is making a squealing noise on occasion, sometimes the steering is hard to move, I was told I needed an a/c compressor. what are the symptoms and how do I know for sure if thats what it is.. thanks

Get another opinion
check belts
or remove the belt and check
you can spin the pulley one at the time looking for the noise
