1998 Plymouth Voyager 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 148000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I was traveling with my van when all of a sudden, it stopped moving forward. I was able to pull over to the side of the road. Upon inspection, tranny fluid was pouring out of the vehicle toward the front. When the tow vehicle got there, we poured 10 quarts tranny fluid into the van and drove it up onto the flatbed trailer. The fluid was pouring out, even with the engine off. The local transmission shop told me that my rear differential was shot- gears were stripped. They want to put a whole new tranny in- but I'm questioning whether or not it needs it? Any suggestions? Couldn't this also be a cracked pan, or something less drastic?[/quote:10004e54d0]
100% correct
we see that all the time
pin inside the differential loose up and hit the wall beside the converter causing tranny failure[/quote:10004e54d0]
But which is correct??? if the gears were stripped, we'd not have been able to drive it forward after we added the tranny fluid, would we? Do we actually need a new tranny?[/quote:10004e54d0]
If they have the tranny out let them show you it
what happen is the pin that hold the gears together and in place broke off
it will continue to turn and drive a bit but its digging into the tranny case causing it to brake and fluid to leak
its depend how severe it is
some time you can welled it and rebuilt the tranny
they have new design pin clip
