Engine Cooling problem
1998 Plymouth Voyager 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive 190000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Engine fan recently began running contiinuously while vehicle driven. Temperature rose one day to the three-quarter make on temp gauge after about 10 minutes' run time (8 minutes' driving) but stabilized. Checked coolant overflow tank about three hours later and it was almost empty. Filled tank to min level mark. Engine ran at or just over mid-range temp gauge mark during driving over next four days, but fan still running constantly. Engine heated to just under top gauge mark on fifth day. After parked for four hours, test drive saw temp climb to three-quarter mark after about 8 minutes of run time.Fan ran continuously during whole time. Slight coolant smell after shutdown.

No sign of coolant leakage during entire period described above. Any suggestions? Thanks.
