1996 Plymouth Voyager Bypassing power steering?

I've been driving without power steering I want to continue to do so since repairing the rack and pinion will cost more than the vehicle is worth,but cannot since the pulley wheel for the power steering broke so now I do not have alternator power while driving and my battery will die. The belt powers both power steering and the alternator. If I buy a shorter serp/alernator belt can I bypass the pulley wheel only going around the alternator and tension wheels so I can have my alternator fully working making it drivable w/o power steering?

you may have to install a bypass pulley to replace the PS pulley but a shorter belt may work as long as there is a way to put tension on it without going around the PS pulley
