1993 Plymouth Voyager Backfiring through the air breather

1993 Plymouth Voyager 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 1993 plymouth voyager. The other day it staarted backfireing through the air breather when i give it gas. ive trid using injecter cleaner (2) and nothing. What could be the problem.

I would go through this procedure if you find no faults you may be looking at worn/burn't valves

BACKFIRING

Ensure ignition timing is correct.
Ensure timing belt/chain has not jumped.
Check distributor (if applicable).
Check for gasoline in oil.
Ensure fuel injectors are not leaking.
Check spark plugs.
Check ignition and coil circuit.
Check engine speed sensor.
Check throttle switch and connector.
Check exhaust system.
