The running lights won't shut off, unless I disconnect battery. Last summer they stayed on once and when i disconnected the battery they worked till now. However; now they come on as soon as I reconnect the battery cable. Is there a way I can disable them until I can affoed to get them repaired correctly.

try the corresponding fuse. but only if that is the only item associated with the fuse. because sometimes several items are on one fuse. but in this case , maybe not
