1996 Other Plymouth Models Shifting

1996 Other Plymouth Models Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I sometimes have to wait several seconds after starting the car in order for it to shift into reverse. Sometimes I even have to tap the gas so it finally shifts. Is there any way I can fix this?

Have you checked to make sure the ATF is full? Also, was the trans serviced reciently? Finally, once it works, does it seem to work properly?
