i have a lifter that doesnt operate when engine is started and when i push on the pushrod with my finger there is very little resistance

Hi:

If the lifter is collapsed, it will need replaced. However, you said it didn't work when the engine is running. The cam may have a worn lobe. You need to check it prior to putting money in to the car.
