1996 Plymouth Neon shifting

I was driving 80km when my car down shifted to 2nd I had pulled over for a little while then I put the car in 1st pulled away then shifted into 2nd then into drive but the car would not shift as I picked up speed.

Hi Sandy,

Is engine light on? If so could be the TCM (Transmission Control Module). Your vehicle is stuck in what is call LIMP MODE. Some models also have what is call a Turbine or Input Speed Sensor and an Output Speed Sensor. I don't remember if that year had them or not.

If engine light is not on then most likely it is an internal malfunction and it will need to be replaced or rebuilt.
