When I turn sharply to the left I get a thumping sound. Also vibration high speed.

I"m told it is a CV joint.

After checking the joints for excessive play I am not sure which side needs replacing. Neither side seems to have excess play.

Can you tell which side is bad by the fact that it makes the noise only when turning to the left?

Thanks,
Peter

Hi there,

It will be the L/H CV. as this is the unit that is under load and turning faster than the other, (on that lock only) is the rubber boot torn? as this is what fails first allowing all the grease to escape.
