Hi,

My 1995 Plymouth Acclaim isn't shitfing out of 1st gear at all. This problem just started. I'm hoping it's not my transmission but I'm guessing that's what it is. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Your car uses a 3 speed transaxle that has a semi- mechanical up shift system. But if it does not upshift and the fluid is full and very dirty, expect trouble. Most likely the problem is internal. A kickdown band in the transmission must apply for second gear. There is a remote possibility it may be repaired without removal because a cable could be causing too much pressure for an upshift to occur.
They sell Chrysler remanufactured transmissions for a pretty decent price but make sure the rest of the car is in good shape before you put a lot of money into it. 100,000 miles is a lot for a 4 cylinder. Expect the worst, sorry. Bring it to a Chrysler dealer. They see this all the time and will know what is best for you.

Hi,

Actually this seems to have worked itself out in my favor. A frind of mine replaced just the transmission filter and fluid (the whole job cost under $25.00) & voila! No more shifting issues except a quick jump-shift every once in a while. Thanks for the quick answer thou.

Have a great day!

Hey my 90 shadow(same car) has jumped shifted since I got it and I never bothered with it. Some have their own characteristics and are sort of like people, a happy ending though with determination, right aimief Joe
