My cars temp gauge said it would overheat every now and then but the antifreeze was fine, I was driving it last nite and it started shaking then I pulled over and it died, I started it again and it cuts out really really bad and is dripping what smells like antifreeze from the tail pipe, there is no water in oil.
What could this be ( I was told maybe blown head gasket) and what parts would I need to purchase at the autoparts store

Thanks

Kellie:
If you have coolant coming out the exhaust, you have a blown head gasket, cracked head, or block which is allowing coolant into the combustion chamber. Did you ever notice white smoke from the exhaust?

As far as parts, when you go to the parts store, tell them you are replacing the head gasket. You will need the gaskets for that job. In all, you will have a head gasket, valve cover gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, intake gasket and a few other smaller ones.

I do, however, recommend replacing the head bolts with new ones, and purchase a manual to get torque specs, torque sequence, step by step instructions and pictures to identify parts. If you run into trouble, let me know and I'll do my best to help via the Internet.
