1994 Plymouth Acclaim rough start and idle

Car is hard to start and gas spews out of throttle body when engine is started. Engine idles rough, and will not stay started unless pressing accelerator; makes popping sound .

Hi:
I would start by checking fuel pump pressure. The regulator may be bad and allowing the pressure to get too high.
