The engine on my 94 plymouth acclaim makes a horrendous knocking sound when you hit the accelerator. I have checked the compression, timing, valvetrain, timing belt and exhaust system. Nothing wrong there. But the noise is silent at idle. Also it makes a knocking sensation in the steering wheel at the same time. Any ideas??

How about a cracked flex plate? You have to unbolt it from the crankshaft to look under the little plate under the bolt heads.
