I just had a fuel pump put on, well I can be driving my truck and it will stall out. Most of the time it has starts right back up. I had a friend tell me that the guy who put the pump on should have disconnected the battery while putting the fuel pump on. I bought a fuel filter just to try the cheapest route first. As my friend was about to change it he called to tell me that he did not need his tools to take the fuel filter off because it was not all the way connected. Could that be why it was stuttering right before it shuts off? Please help a lady in need of suggestions and do not have a lot of money to take to the shop.

Good morning.

If the fuel filter was not installed correctly, you would have fuel leak. It would smell very badly of raw fuel. He may have meant that it was not secure in its mounting. A fuel filter will not cause this issue.

As far as the fuel pump, no, the battery does not have to be disconnected at all. It will not make a difference in the end result of the repair. Even though it is recommended, it is not always done.

Possible cause is a crankshaft position sensor. This is a common failure for your exact issue as the signal drops and the truck will stall and start right back up.

Is the check engine light on? If it is, do you know the codes?

No there is no smell and check engine light is not on. The new guy wants to try the mass air flow sensor and or Seafoam to see if that will help. I will definitely let him know what you said about the crankshaft. Thank you so much. I will keep you updated.
