Pistons ruined

my car stopped in the middle of the road a few days back. the mechanic says there was kerosene mixed with the diesel and this caused the pistons to be ruined. can this be true?

It doesn't sounds like it,, diesel and kerosene are very similar, I would have a second opinion.
