2000 Other Peugeot Models Engine Immobiliser Fault

My peugeot 406 hdi 90 (X reg) has broken down. the engine just cut out whilst i was driving, when i turn the key it sounds like its trying to start, but won't. on the dash it says 'engine immobiliser fault' this happened last night and i still haven't sorted it. any ideas? this is the second time it's happened.

you need to have the vehicle plugged into a diagnostic computer to locate the cause of the immoboliser fault !
