2000 Other Peugeot Models engine cutting out

Occasionally when driving my Peugot 406 HDi the engine cuts out for a second and similtaniously the speedometer goes to zero. This is only happening rarely but seems to be a sign of something failing and could be dangerous if it fails in the fast lane of a busy motorway. What do you think it might be? Hi,
I think you may have an electic issue here. Have you noticed when the car cuts out and the speedo reads 0, of any light comes on the dash? Any sign of complete power cut? I.E clock or radio?
