2001 Peugeot 406 Front Wheel Drive Manual 80000 miles

Earlier today my fuel level indicator was at 3/4 full which seems about right. For no apparent reason it has now shot up to full again. Any ideas. PS no body has tampered with the fuel tank. Many thanks

it could be the fuel is sitting in the tank uneven giving a false reading ie. if parked on a gradient/hill
