Does the same 5 speed gearbox fit petrol and diesel engines in the Peugeot 406 1996?

Do any cars have the same kind of gearbox as the diesel 406?

No the engines and boxes are different. Different bell housing / different ratios. Depending on your model a Citroen C5 or a 405 may be the same. A transmission specialist or a scrapyard should be able to help you out.
