1998 Peugeot 306 Two Wheel Drive Manual 107000 miles

My car tends to stall after ti ahs been stationary for a period of time. If it is stationary and I then drive off with it it tends to lose power as I move up the gears and gain speed and eventually stalls on me. Once I stop the car after ti has stalled it restarts without any problem. It also stalls if Im stationary for a few minutes like at traffick lights. Its a 1998 Peugeot 306. Any suggestions what might be causing this?

have the vehicle serviced and have it plugged into a diagnostic computer to check for fault codes
