1998 Peugeot 306 car faults

i have a peugeot 306 1992 but i have just fitted an engine from a 1998 306. we notices air getting in to the fuel line. when its idling its fine its ok in first gear and the start of 2nd but as the revs get higher it jerks and when you hit 3rd it dies its like theres not enuff power and its been starved of deisel oh the engine is a 1.9dt
