2002 Peugeot 206 Rear brake lights on all the time!

Hi, just bought a second hand car and didn't notice that the rear brake lights (all 3) are on constantly. Can you tell me the likely cause ? Everything else appears to be functioning perfectly.

check for a faulty BPP (brake pedal position) switch located above the brake pedal
