Pass-lock sensor

Sometimes car will not start. re-set the security mode and it will start. If I replace the key lock cylinder will it fix the problem, or is the pass-lock sensor a separate part? Thank you.

The actual sensor is part of the housing the lock cylinder goes into. Replacing just the cylinder will not help.
