Code P228d, engine over speed smelled something hot?

Just randomly said engine reduce power then engine over speed smelled something hot then it said that done replaced high pressure fuel pump and runs good any other time was fine when started back hours later.

The P228D code on a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu typically indicates an issue related to the fuel pressure sensor. This would explain the hot smell as too much fuel is being burnt. Here is the location of the fuel pressure sensor so you can change it out which should fix the problem. Clear the codes once the repair is completed. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
